Step inside a Georgia Tech volleyball practice with head coach Michelle Collier! In this video, Collier not only coaches her players, but also explains her drills to you as if you're standing right next to her throughout the entire session. She shares the purpose of each drill, what to focus on, and what needs to be done in order to find success come game day. You'll observe player-initiated warm-up drills with plenty of variations, high-energy practice drills, grueling and focused wash games, and more!
Ball Handling Warm-Up Drills
Create movement and focus by knowing where to go after every contact! The warm-up drills shown by Coach Collier will help you change up your routine at practice while also providing mental work & skill awareness. Aspects of the game that your players will improve on during a ball handling warm-up include free ball movements, deep corner coverage, and defensive coverage.
Over the Net Drills
Collier directs small group teamwork drills to enhance ball control, creating multiple touches with serve and receive ball handling, cross court hitting and defense! This progresses in intensity by having attackers work on front row transition, setters work on footwork, liberos work on defensive movement, and blockers work on single block defense. In all, your team will improve its communication skills, base defense court movement, and setter/hitter timing & location.
Team-Oriented Wash Games
Coach Collier's last team-oriented drill incorporates skill development and endurance, first from serve-receive formation, then on free balls to work on setter/hitter timing and location. You'll learn how Georgia Tech runs their:
- Serve-receive plays
- Offense off of a free ball
- In-system and out-of-system plays
If you want to see how a high-level collegiate program conducts practice, this look at Georgia Tech's methods, led by Coach Collier, will be well worth your time!
